There are so many amazing places to visit on a Thailand yacht charter, and Koh Sirey is no exception to that! Lying to the east side of Phuket town, the island feels more like a small cape than an island, but it is an island nonetheless and happens to be connected to Phuket town by a very short bridge! Koh Sirey is definitely an area of Phuket that is not well known but is definitely worth a visit on your Thailand yacht charter if only to view the beautiful Sirey Bay!
[mappress mapid=”7″]This small island is only 20km square and can be seen from fairly far away due to the Thai temple that sits at the top of a hill. It is on the eastern side of Phuket town and is very un-touristy with almost non existent construction almost giving you a glimpse of how Phuket was over 20 years ago. The beautiful leafy coast with the rubber plantations nestled behind offers you lovely views of the island on your Thailand yacht charter
A visit to the temple on the top of the hill takes you up a small windy road to the top, where you can admire the temple and it’s large golden reclining buddha, as well as the lovely views to be had down onto Phuket town.
There is also a Sea Gypsy village here known as Chao Lay, known locally as Chao Ley (or people of the sea) they are a colony of Moken Sea Gypsies from Laem Tukkae village. It is said that these sea gypsies were in fact the first inhabitants of the Andaman coastal regions of Thailand and Malaysia. They have their own distinctive culture and religion and retain their own language, they are very approachable but expect them to be a quite shy. There is a lovely big open air seafood restaurant next to the sea gypsy village which is a good place for a lunch stop.
Enjoy the slower pace of life here on Koh Sirey, hard to believe that it is only half an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Patong, but perfect for some relaxing time soaking up the relaxed atmosphere of island life.Photo Credit: jamie-monk.blogspot.com, self-simplify.blogspot.com
